Maine Street Historic District — listed 2019
Downtown Fallon's Maine Street Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 16, 2019. Combined with the Hearts O' Gold cantaloupe heritage and the oldest county high school in Nevada (Churchill County High, est. 1917), Fallon has more layered history than its size suggests.
Fallon is the seat of Churchill County, founded July 24, 1896, and incorporated in 1908. Its Chamber of Commerce coined the nickname 'Oasis of Nevada' in 1948 — apt for irrigated farmland producing roughly five tons of hay per acre in the Great Basin high desert. Churchill County School District — unique age-banded structure
Fallon's elementary schools are organized by grade, not neighborhood — Lahontan Elementary (K–1), E.C. Best (2nd–3rd), Numa (4th–5th) — before all students converge at Churchill County Middle and Churchill County High School (est. 1917, ~1,000 students).
